It’s a wrap! The fishing sister inaugural 2023 Family Fun Easter Fishing Competition was held on Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday at the Marion Bay Caravan Park.
This team event was aimed at families fishing off the beach or jetty which was perfect as the Caravan Park was fully booked, and there were young kids everywhere. It reminded us of all the years we took our boys camping. Such happy memories!

We set up our event area in a prime location, right next to the central BBQs in the caravan park! We put the prize packs on display, and set up the measuring and weighing stations.
The weather was not the best over the two days of the event, however people lined the Bay keen to catch the winning fish. Rivalry was strong, but all in good fun which is what it was all about! The mullet were plentiful which made the weekend really special. There is nothing worse than fishing for hours without a result, especially for younger children.
We used a brag mat to measure the fish, and a scales to weigh them.
It was heaps of fun seeing the kids’ excitement and pride at having their catch measured and weighed.
What was caught
Mullet were the fish to catch, with plenty in the Bay most afternoons. The legendary Marion Bay squid were nowhere to be found however, although a lot of people tried for them off the jetty. No-one managed to catch a salmon or salmon trout.

Biggest Mullet
Archer from the Adelaide Hills Ratbags landed a whopping 39cm mullet weighing 520 grams. Impressive!
